Suites & rooms – Frequently asked questions

• Which accommodation is right for our family size? At linara, the selection ranges from the meteora family room for up to 3 guests to the aurora family suite for up to 6 guests. In between, you will find family rooms and suites for families of different sizes

• What is the difference between the suites and the rooms? The suites feature separate sleeping and living areas as well as a fully equipped kitchen with a dining area.

• How large are the suites at linara? Depending on the category, the suites are approximately 50 to 68 m² in size. stellara offers around 50 m², lunara around 55 m², solara around 61 m² and aurora around 68 m².

• Do all suites have their own kitchen? Yes. The suites have a fully equipped kitchen and a private dining area, allowing you to organise everyday family life flexibly while on holiday.

• Does linara offer accessible family suites? Yes, accessible family suites are available on request. The aurora family suite can also be booked as an accessible suite.

• Are there smaller accommodation options for three or four guests? Yes. The cometara deluxe family room offers approximately 37 m² for up to 4 guests, while the meteora family room offers around 25 m² for up to 3 guests.

• Which family suite is suitable for families with up to four children? The aurora family suite offers approximately 68 m² of space for up to 6 guests, making it suitable for families with up to 4 children. An accessible version is available on request.

• Which accommodation services are included? Fresh bed linen and towels will be ready for you on arrival, and final cleaning is included. You will also enjoy free Wi-Fi and regular room checks, including bed-making and light vacuuming.

• How often are bed linen and towels changed? Bed linen is changed every 7 days. Towels and spa linen are replaced on request.

• Where can we store our car, bicycles and ski equipment? If you book a room, you can park free of charge in front of the hotel. If you book a suite, one free underground parking space is included per unit. There is also a bike room and a ski room with a ski boot dryer.

• Which family extras can we use free of charge? Pushchairs and child carriers are available to borrow free of charge. Other amenities include a laundry room, a small shop and spa bags with bathrobes and towels for adults and children.

• Is childcare included in the stay? Yes. Children aged 3 and over are cared for from Monday to Friday, from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, for a total of 40 hours per week. An organic lunch and a drink are included during childcare.

• Which wellness areas are included? The water world includes the Family Indoor Pool and the children’s pool. Adults can also use the Adults Only sauna area with a Finnish sauna and relaxation room.

• Is linara accessible? A lift provides step-free access throughout the hotel. Accessible suites are also available.

• Can we do laundry during our holiday? Yes. A laundry room is available in the basement, which is especially practical for longer family stays.

Information & arrival – Frequently asked questions

• When can we check in and when is check-out? Check-in is available from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm. On departure day, your accommodation is available until 10.00 am. After check-out, you are welcome to continue using our pool area free of charge until 12.00 noon.

• Is late check-out available? Yes, subject to availability, we offer the following options:

  • Late check-out from 12.00 noon to 6.00 pm: pool and sauna access included at the family price of €59

  • Late check-out with use of your room or suite until 6.00 pm: pool and sauna access included at the family price of €99

• When does our booking become binding? A deposit of 30% is required to secure the reservation. Once it has been received, you will receive your booking confirmation by email. If payment is not received within 7 days, the reservation will be cancelled automatically.

• What cancellation conditions apply? A processing fee of €40 applies up to 30 days before arrival. From 30 to 14 days before arrival, 30% of the total price is charged, and from 14 to 4 days before arrival, 80% is charged. From 3 days before arrival, as well as in the event of late arrival or early departure, 100% is charged.

• Are dogs allowed at linara? Yes, dogs are welcome for €25 per night. A dog bed and bowl are provided; please bring a lead, blanket, food and anything else your dog may need.

• How can we reach linara by car or public transport? By car, take the A22 motorway to the Brixen Nord/Vahrn exit, continue towards Val Pusteria and travel via Mühlbach to Vals. By train and bus, it is best to travel via Brixen or Franzensfeste; regular buses run from there to Vals.

• Is there an additional tourist tax? Yes. The tourist tax is €2.80 per person per night for guests aged 14 and over. It is not included in the accommodation price and is payable on site.

• How can we book our stay at linara? You can book by phone, via the website or by email. The reservation becomes binding once the 30% deposit has been received.

• Does linara recommend travel insurance? Yes. In view of the applicable cancellation conditions, linara recommends taking out travel insurance.

Childcare – Frequently asked questions

• From what age can children take part in childcare? Childcare is designed for little guests aged 3 and over. From Monday to Friday, between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm, children are in the capable hands of qualified educators.

• Is lunch included during childcare? Yes, an organic lunch and a drink are included for children attending half-day or full-day childcare.

• How large are the childcare groups? Childcare at linara takes place in small groups. This leaves plenty of room for playing together, making new friends and enjoying genuine nature experiences.

• What do children experience in the Nature Programme? Depending on the programme, children may go on a treasure hunt, visit the farm or herb garden, or head out into the woods and meadows. Creative activities with natural materials and baking bread with farmer Florian are also part of the experience.

• Is childcare available outside the regular hours? Yes. Our additional, paid going-out and lie-in service lets you enjoy some extra time to yourselves in the morning or evening. The service is available from Monday to Saturday on request and should be booked one day in advance.

• Are children taken to ski lessons in winter? Yes. From Tuesday to Friday, the hotel shuttle takes children to their group ski lessons.

• What is the main focus of childcare? The focus is on nature, movement and creativity. Depending on the programme, activities take place in the garden, in the woods, with the animals or in creative workshops.

• How much does the going-out and lie-in service cost? The additional childcare service costs €30 per hour for one child, plus €10 per hour for each additional child. Please book the service one day in advance whenever possible.

Adventure worlds – Frequently asked questions

• What can children experience in the play barn? The two-storey play barn offers a variety of themed rooms for climbing, playing and exploring. This means there is plenty of space for little adventures even when the weather is poor.

• Is there a separate area for older children and teenagers? Yes. The teen room includes table football, air hockey, a games table and a PlayStation, among other things.

• Is there also a family playroom? Yes. In addition to the play barn and teen room, there is a family playroom. Board games are also available to borrow from reception.

• What does the adventure playground offer? Outside, children can enjoy a basket swing, slide, sandpit, playhouse, agility course, trampoline and pump track. Little explorers have plenty of space to move and play to their heart’s content.

• Which vehicles are available for children? The mini vehicle fleet includes tractors, balance bikes and go-karts, among other things, ready for little rides as part of the family adventure.

• Are there outdoor play opportunities in winter too? Yes. When there is snow, children can slide and sledge around linara, right outside the door.

• Is the outdoor playground directly at the hotel and free from traffic? Yes. The outdoor playground is directly behind the hotel, away from traffic and surrounded by greenery, with plenty of space for climbing, balancing and letting off steam.

• Is the Bioland farm part of the adventure worlds? Yes. Right at linara, children can meet sheep, goats, calves, donkeys, ponies, runner ducks, rabbits and chickens and experience farm life up close.

Familienhotels Südtirol – Frequently asked questions

• Which age group is the family offer particularly suitable for? The Family Experiences are designed especially for children of kindergarten and primary-school age. The programme is particularly suitable for children aged approximately 3 to 13, although babies and teenagers are of course welcome too.

• Which Family Experiences set linara apart? linara combines the three Family Experiences Winter Action, Small & Cosy and Children’s Farm, bringing together winter sports, a small and welcoming hotel and a genuine farm.

• What is the Nature Programme by Familienhotels Südtirol? Children discover nature with all their senses by crafting with branches, moss and stones, going on treasure hunts and playing games that explore how to protect nature. Activities are adapted to the children’s age and the season.

• How is the quality of the Familienhotels assessed? Member hotels meet defined family standards and are inspected regularly by TÜV NORD. These standards include safe play areas, child-friendly facilities and qualified childcare.

• What makes the Nature Programme at linara special? Here, nature can be experienced right outside the door: in the garden, with the animals, in the woods and meadows, beside the mountain stream, with the bees or at the hotel’s own alpine hut. This is how little guests become genuine little nature rangers.

• Are grandparents, godparents and friends also welcome on a family holiday? Yes. Families in all their forms are welcome at linara, from grandparents and godparents to friends, aunts, uncles and cousins.

• What does the Small & Cosy Family Experience mean at linara? Small & Cosy stands for a small, personal and family-run hotel. linara has just under 30 rooms and suites and deliberately creates a warm, family atmosphere.

• Does the Nature Programme have an annual theme? Yes. The Nature Programme has a different annual theme, which remains a surprise until you arrive.

Bioland farm – Frequently asked questions

• Is the farm at linara really part of everyday hotel life? Yes. The hotel’s own Bioland farm is a lively part of linara and gives children a hands-on experience of agriculture. It is not just about watching, but also about discovering, feeding the animals and joining in.

• Which animals live on the farm? The farm is home to sheep, goats, calves, ponies, rabbits and chickens. There are also fruit trees, berry bushes and an apiary.

• Can children take part in farm life? Yes. Children can collect organic Bioland eggs, feed the animals and visit the barn together. Along the way, they learn where food comes from and what farming means.

• What is grown on the hotel’s own land? Herbs, oats and maize are among the crops grown in the meadows and fields. Seasonal produce later finds its way into the kitchen too.

• Are there regular visits to the barn? Yes. Children can visit the barn every day with the childcare team and experience the animals up close.

• Is bread baked on the farm too? Yes. We bake bread together in the traditional wood-fired oven—an experience that lets children smell, feel and taste how simple ingredients become something delicious.

• What else can children discover around the meadows and farm? Around the hotel, children can discover an apiary, a maize maze, a herb garden, berry bushes and an orchard, among other things. So there is always something new to explore in addition to the animals.

• Can children stroke the animals? Yes. The animals may be stroked; whenever they need some peace and quiet, they can retreat to the barn.

Organic cuisine – Frequently asked questions

• Which meal options can we book at linara? You can book your stay with an organic breakfast or with organic half board. Half board includes a choice of three-course organic menus in the evening.

• How consistent is the restaurant’s organic quality? The kitchen has been awarded Bio Fair Südtirol Gold. This is the highest Bio Fair certification for gastronomy and represents an organic share of at least 90%.

• What do children eat with half board? A dedicated organic children’s buffet is available for our little guests, making it easy for even the youngest food lovers to find something they enjoy.

• Can we have lunch at linara too? Yes. From Tuesday to Saturday, the Ristorantino serves organic dishes à la carte at lunchtime; lunch is not included in the price of your stay. Lunch and a drink are included for children attending half-day or full-day childcare.

• Are gluten-free or lactose-free alternatives available? Yes, gluten-free and lactose-free alternatives are available on request. Please let us know about your requirements when making your enquiry or booking whenever possible.

• When is the Ristorantino open? Breakfast is served daily from 7.30 to 10.00 am, lunch from Tuesday to Saturday from 12.00 noon to 1.00 pm, and dinner from Monday to Saturday from 6.00 to 8.00 pm. Sunday is our day off.

• Do ingredients come directly from the hotel’s own farm? Yes. Seasonal produce grown in our own fields and garden makes its way directly into the kitchen. It is complemented by carefully selected, predominantly regional organic ingredients.

• How does the Ristorantino cater for families with children? Children are served first and can choose from the children’s buffet or, on request, from the adults’ menu. Toys and colouring sets help make the wait relaxed and enjoyable.

Organic philosophy – Frequently asked questions

• What does organic mean to linara? At linara, organic is not a short-term idea but a conscious decision in favour of food produced with care, respect and time. This approach connects our cuisine, farm and family holidays.

• What proportion of the food used in the kitchen is organic? Our cuisine is based on at least 90% organic quality. We use fresh, seasonal and predominantly regional ingredients.

• Where does the food come from? Many ingredients come from our own Bioland farm or carefully selected producers in the region. Short transport routes and traceable origins are part of the linara philosophy.

• Does linara grow its own vegetables? Yes. We expand our own vegetable cultivation in summer so that fresh produce can travel directly from the garden to the kitchen.

• How do children experience the organic philosophy? By collecting eggs, feeding animals, discovering herbs and baking bread, children experience how closely nature and food are connected. The Nature Programme turns these activities into playful journeys of discovery.

• How does linara combine organic principles and sustainability? Regional sourcing, short transport routes, responsibly selected ingredients and the mindful use of resources all belong together. Our aim is to serve delicious food while respecting its origins and nature.

• What is the idea behind little. nature. ranger.? Children should not merely look at nature but discover and understand it for themselves. During nature-based childcare, they explore the surroundings and learn through play to treat nature and food with care.

• Who is behind linara’s organic philosophy? Nadia and Florian Gatterer run linara together with their daughters Lara and Lina and their team. Florian contributes his experience as a hotelier and organic farmer, while Nadia brings her background in environmental management and the cultivation of crops and herbs.

Sustainability – Frequently asked questions

• Has linara’s sustainability been officially recognised? Yes. linara holds the South Tyrol Sustainability Label and makes sustainability visible through many practical aspects of the hotel.

• How is the hotel heated and supplied with energy? For more than 25 years, linara has been heated with wood chips from the surrounding forests. It was also the first building in the village to have its own photovoltaic system.

• What does linara do to prevent unnecessary waste? We avoid disposable items wherever possible, reduce plastic and carefully separate waste. When it comes to towel changes and room cleaning, you help decide what you actually need.

• Which materials are used for renovations? linara uses natural materials for renovations, including sheep’s-wool carpets and timber from its own forest.

• Can we get around without a car during our holiday? With the Brixen Südtirol Guest Pass, you can use public transport throughout South Tyrol free of charge. Two charging stations for electric cars are also available in the underground garage.

• How does the hotel provide information sustainably? The digital guest folder replaces many printed brochures. It includes information about the ski and alpine region, the weekly programme and menu choices, among other things.

• How does linara strengthen regional economic cycles? linara works closely with regional partners, keeps transport routes short and therefore supports local value creation. Many foods also come from our own farm or the surrounding area.

• How is energy saved in everyday hotel operations? Heating and lighting are managed efficiently. Our own photovoltaic system and the wood-chip heating system that has been in use for many years make a further contribution.

Water world – Frequently asked questions

• How large and deep is the Family Indoor Pool? The Family Indoor Pool measures 60 m² and is 135 cm deep, making it a large aquatic playground for water lovers of all ages.

• Is there a separate pool for small children? Yes. The children’s pool measures 20 m², is only 25 cm deep and has a small slide and water features. It is entirely indoors and therefore protected from the wind and UV rays.

• When is the water world open? The pools are open daily from 9.00 am to 7.00 pm, leaving plenty of time for swimming and splashing before or after an excursion.

• Are pool toys available? Yes. Pool noodles, water buckets and watering cans are available to borrow at linara.

• Where can we spend time together as a family between the pool and sauna? In the Plauderstube between the pool and sauna area, the whole family can sit together, read or relax. It also has a small tea kitchen.

• What if we forget swim nappies or swimwear? Swim nappies are available from linara’s small shop. Sport Mode Maria, only around 20 metres away, also sells swimwear and swimming goggles.

• Is there an outdoor area for relaxing in summer? Yes. In summer, the water world includes a sunbathing lawn with a terrace—ideal for a break between splashing about and family adventures.

• Are children really allowed to play and let off steam in the Family Indoor Pool? Yes. The Family Indoor Pool is expressly designed as a large aquatic playground where children can jump, splash and have fun.

Adults Only area – Frequently asked questions

• What does the Adults Only area include? The Adults Only area is a small retreat for adults with a Finnish sauna and relaxation room. In summer, it also includes a separate, screened sunbathing lawn.

• Is the Adults Only area textile-free? Yes. The sauna area is designated as a nude area.

• When is the sauna open? The Adults Only sauna area is open daily from 4.00 to 9.00 pm.

• Is all of linara Adults Only? No. Only the sauna area is reserved for adults; linara remains a family hotel with a water world, play areas, childcare and a farm for guests of all ages.

• Is there an area where families and sauna guests can meet? Yes. The Plauderstube with its small tea kitchen is located between the pool and sauna and is accessible to the whole family.

• Which extras are available in the sauna area? Reading material, tea, drinking water and bathrobes are provided for your little break. This allows you to relax in peace between sauna sessions.

• Can external guests use the Finnish sauna too? Yes. External guests can also use the Finnish sauna from Tuesday to Saturday as part of the Family Day Spa.

• Can we combine the pool and sauna on the same day? Yes. The Family Indoor Pool and Adults Only sauna area can be used on the same day; please note their respective opening hours.

Family Day Spa – Frequently asked questions

• Can we visit linara’s water world without staying overnight? Yes. External guests can use the Family Day Spa from Tuesday to Saturday.

• What is included in the Family Day Spa? You can use the family pool and Finnish sauna and will receive a wellness bag with a bathrobe and towels. The Swiss-pine relaxation room and separate, screened sunbathing lawn are also part of the wellness area.

• How much does the Family Day Spa cost? The Day Spa costs €39 per adult and €12 per child aged 3 and over. With an organic breakfast, the package costs €58 per adult and €19 per child aged 3 and over.

• Is childcare available with the Day Spa? Yes. Childcare is open from Tuesday to Friday, from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

• Can we combine the Day Spa with a meal at linara? Yes. Depending on the time of day, you can plan an organic breakfast, an aperitivo at the bar, lunch or dinner in the Ristorantino.

• How do we book the Family Day Spa? The Family Day Spa is booked directly with linara. It is best to contact the hotel in advance so that your wellness day can be firmly scheduled.

• Can we visit the Family Day Spa without our family? Yes. The Day Spa is intended for external guests and can be enjoyed alone, with family or together with friends.

• Is childcare available at the Family Day Spa on Saturdays? No. The Family Day Spa is open from Tuesday to Saturday, but childcare is available from Tuesday to Friday, from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Summer – Frequently asked questions

• At what altitude is linara located, and what is summer like in Vals? Vals lies at around 1,350 metres above sea level. In summer, warm days and fresh mountain air await—ideal for families who want to spend time outdoors.

• Are there walks suitable for families and pushchairs? Yes. Numerous hiking and themed trails can be found around Vals and Gitschberg Jochtal, including routes suitable for families and pushchairs.

• Can we explore by bike or e-bike in summer? Yes. The region can also be explored by mountain bike and e-bike, with routes for different levels of ability.

• Can we use the mountain lifts for our excursions? Yes. Depending on the route, the mountain lifts save you the first steep climb. During selected periods, rides are even free with the Brixen Südtirol Guest Pass.

• Which summer adventures are available besides hiking? Activities include climbing, horse riding, tennis, paragliding and rafting. Families will also find adventure parks with petting zoos, water worlds, climbing elements and balance courses.

• Does linara offer a guided hike? Yes. On Tuesdays, we hike together to the Fane Alm and the hotel’s own Gattererhütte. Along the way, you will learn more about Vals, nature and life on the alpine pasture; a traditional snack with speck, cheese and Schüttelbrot is also included.

• Can we hire e-bikes nearby? Yes. You can hire e-bikes from Sport Mode Maria, only around 20 metres from linara. No discount applies to the rental itself.

• Are climbing activities available for children? Yes. Climbing courses are offered in the region, where children learn how to use ropes and carabiners under professional guidance and make their first attempts on the rock.

Winter – Frequently asked questions

• How close is the Gitschberg Jochtal ski area to linara? The Jochtal ski area is only about one minute by car from linara. This means you can quickly reach the snow in the morning and return to the family hotel just as quickly after skiing.

• What does the Gitschberg Jochtal ski area offer? Families can enjoy 25 slopes, 15 lifts, sunny hillsides and magnificent Dolomite views. Three children’s parks with magic carpets make it easier for little skiers to get started.

• Is support available for children’s ski lessons? Group and private lessons are available in the region. From Monday to Friday, the hotel shuttle takes children to group ski lessons.

• What can we do in winter besides skiing? Tobogganing, winter hiking, snowshoeing and ski touring are all part of winter in Vals. There is also space for sliding in the snow and building snowmen right beside the hotel.

• Are there cross-country skiing opportunities nearby? Yes. Vals has a cross-country trail around 5 km long. A further 25 km of trails await on the Rodenecker-Lüsner Alm.

• Are there benefits for ski hire or winter equipment? linara guests receive a 10% discount on every pair of skis hired from our partner Skirental Leitner. Sport Mode Maria, only around 20 metres away, also offers a 10% discount on winter clothing.

• How many toboggan runs are there around Vals? Four toboggan runs await in the surrounding area. The natural toboggan run in Vals is around 1 kilometre long and covers 152 metres of elevation.

• What can we experience at the panoramic viewing platform in the ski area? The viewing platform offers sweeping views of South Tyrol’s mountain landscape. You can also learn the names and elevations of the surrounding peaks.

Gitschberg Jochtal region – Frequently asked questions

• Why is Gitschberg Jochtal well suited to a family holiday? Gitschberg Jochtal offers families a wealth of activities throughout the year. In summer, there are alpine pastures, hiking trails and adventure parks; in winter, ski slopes, toboggan runs and snow-covered paths await.

• Which summer destinations are among the region’s highlights? Well-known destinations include the Fane Alm, the region’s Big Five, adventure parks and numerous alpine-pasture, summit and climbing tours.

• What does the region offer in winter? Winter activities focus on skiing, tobogganing, ski touring, cross-country skiing and winter hiking, complemented by sweeping views of the Dolomites, Eisack Valley and Puster Valley.

• Where can we find a particularly beautiful viewpoint? The panoramic viewing platform on the Steinermandl is a rewarding destination in every season, with far-reaching views across South Tyrol’s mountain landscape.

• How does the Guest Pass help us explore the region? The Brixen Südtirol Guest Pass makes many excursions easier: ski buses and alpine buses are included in winter, while public transport throughout South Tyrol is free. Depending on the period, free mountain-lift rides or discounts are also available in summer.

• Can we conveniently reach the mountains by lift in summer? Yes. Many mountain adventures can begin with a lift ride, allowing you to comfortably cover the first steep metres of elevation. During selected periods, rides are even included with the Guest Pass.

• Are there adventure parks for children in Gitschberg Jochtal? Yes. Adventure parks throughout the region offer little adventurers attractions such as petting zoos, water worlds, climbing elements and balance courses.

• What does linara offer after an active day in the region? After hiking, skiing or exploring, you can relax in the water and wellness world before enjoying a delicious meal in the Ristorantino.

Südtirol Guest Pass – Frequently asked questions

• Is the Brixen Südtirol Guest Pass included in our stay? Yes. You receive the Brixen Südtirol Guest Pass for the entire duration of your stay at linara at no additional cost.

• Which mountain lifts are free in 2026? The Gitschberg-Nesselbahn and Jochtalbahn can be used free of charge once a day from 14 May to 10 July and from 6 September to 7 November 2026. On the Plose, this applies to the Plose cable car, Pfannspitz gondola and Palmschoß chairlift from 23 May to 10 July and from 6 September to 1 November 2026.

• Which benefits are available during the summer high season? From 11 July to 5 September 2026, you receive a 25% discount on multi-day lift passes for Gitschberg Jochtal and Plose. Tickets are available from ticket offices or ticket machines.

• Can we travel free of charge by bus and train with the Guest Pass? Yes. Public transport throughout South Tyrol is included. In winter, you can also use the ski buses in Gitschberg Jochtal and the Almbus from Mühlbach to the Rodenecker-Lüsner Alm free of charge.

• Which other services are included with the Guest Pass? The pass includes free admission or benefits at numerous leisure and cultural attractions, including swimming pools, museums and miniature golf. Depending on the season, discounted or included activities such as guided hikes, ice skating, evening activities and events are also available.

• Can we use the Guest Pass for our arrival by public transport? Yes. When arriving by bus or train, you can use free public transport from the South Tyrol border onwards.

• Which swimming pools are included with the Guest Pass? The offer includes the Acquarena in Brixen and the outdoor swimming pools in Mühlbach, Klausen and Feldthurns, among others.

• Which activities does the weekly programme offer in each season? Winter activities include night skiing, ice skating and torchlight hikes, while the warmer months offer group hikes, a farmers’ market and adventure climbing courses. Theatre, cinema and concerts also complement the programme.
